Ultrasound Scan of the Abdomen with Full Bladder

Ultrasound Scan of the Abdomen with Full Bladder

About the Examination

You are scheduled for an ultrasound scan of your abdomen. During an ultrasound examination, we use sound waves to create images of the internal structures of the body. The sound waves are emitted and received through an ultrasound probe, which is moved across the skin.
The examination takes up to 30 minutes, but you should allow up to 1 hour due to possible waiting time.

Drink Water Before the Examination

You must drink 1 liter of fluid before the examination, as your bladder needs to be full during the scan. You may use the restroom once the examination is completed.

The Examination

You will be lying down while we perform the scan. We apply gel to your abdomen and move the ultrasound probe across the skin with light pressure. The probe creates images of your abdomen, which are displayed on a screen.

Results

You will be given an initial assessment while the scan is being performed. The detailed report will be sent to the physician or department that referred you. You can also access the final result on www.sundhed.dk or www.minsundhedsplatform.dk.
