Purpose of the Examination
The purpose of the examination is to examine various organs using sound waves (ultrasound).
What Is an Ultrasound Examination
An ultrasound examination is performed by sending sound waves (ultrasound) into the area to be examined. These sound waves create echoes, which are displayed as images on a screen. From these images, it is possible to see whether there are any irregularities in the examined area.
Where the Examination Takes Place
The examination takes place at Nordsjællands Hospital – Hillerød.
Preparation for the Examination
No preparation is required for the examination.
How the Examination Is Performed
The child lies on an examination table during the scan. The scan is performed by moving a transducer over the surface of the skin. To ensure good contact between the skin and the transducer, ultrasound cream (gel) is applied to the area being examined.
Duration of the Examination
The ultrasound scan takes approximately 20 minutes.
Discomfort and Side Effects
There is usually no discomfort associated with the examination. An ultrasound scan is harmless.
Results of the Examination
We will send the results of the examination to the doctor, department, or outpatient clinic that referred your child.
