Ultrasound Scan of the Blood Vessels in the Arms or Legs

An ultrasound examination can be used to assess for blood clots or the consequences of any previous blood clots in the arms or legs.

About the Examination

You are scheduled for an ultrasound scan of the blood vessels in your arms or legs. During an ultrasound examination, we use sound waves to create images of the internal structures of the body. The sound waves are emitted and received through an ultrasound probe, which is moved across the skin. The purpose of the scan is to assess for blood clots or the consequences of previous blood clots in the arms or legs.
The examination takes approximately 30 minutes, but you should allow up to 1 hour due to possible waiting time.

The Examination

You will be lying down or sitting while we perform the scan. We apply gel to the skin and move the ultrasound probe across the area with light pressure. The probe creates images of the blood vessels in your arms or legs, which are displayed on a screen. During the scan, you will be asked to change positions between lying on your back, side, and stomach.

Results

You will be given an initial assessment while the scan is being performed. The detailed report will be sent to the physician or department that referred you. You can also access the final result on www.sundhed.dk or www.minsundhedsplatform.dk.
